Email Accounts Compromised @seolibraries.org

SEO Members,

Several of the @seolibraries.org email accounts have been compromised in the past week and have been used to send SPAM.

As a result, our email hosting provider (1and1) has been restricting these compromised accounts from sending out email as some of you may have experienced.

This is most often due to weak or insecure passwords.

Hackers often will run automated software tools against online email accounts trying to crack(break) the passwords.

  • A typical/insecure 8-character email password such as #1DonWin can be cracked in less than 12 days
  • A complex 9-character password such as #1~DonWin can be cracked in 120 days
  • A complex 13-character password such as #1~DonWinland will take 20 years to crack

Test different passwords at the link below to see how long it would take your online email password to be cracked:

https://password.kaspersky.com/

SEO Password Policy Requirements and Recommendations

  • Passwords should be changed every 60 to 90 days
  • Passwords should be a minimum length of 12 characters
  • Passwords should contain numbers, special characters, and upper and lower-case letters

If you suspect your email account has been compromised, change your password immediately.

If you cannot access your email account, contact SEO and we can reset your password for you.

Let us know if you have any questions on your email accounts.

Pymatuning Valley School (ADP) will have a new delivery process for this school year.

Good Afternoon:

The Pymatuning Valley School (ADP) will have a new delivery process starting this school year. Any items that are to be delivered to ADP should be sent directly to Andover Public Library. Items will be checked out to users upon reaching the Pymatuning Valley School.

The shipping exceptions document has been updated and can be found here.

For libraries using the Symphony receipt software, the agency files have been updated to include this change.

These files are available on our Support Site at the following link:

Manual Agency File Update Method
To update your agencies.xml file; simply overwrite your current file with your desired preference of “with library name” or “without library name.” The path by default is C:\Program Files\Symphony Receipt Printer unless of course, you have the agencies.xml file located in a shared file server location.

Automated Agency File Update Method – optional and preferred

SEO hosts these files on our web server, and we keep them up to date as routes change. This method ensures you have the current agency file.

Here are the paths for these two files if you want to use this hosted method:

Agency File With Library Name
https://servingeveryohioan.org/files/agency-with-name/agencies.xml

Agency File Without Library Name

https://servingeveryohioan.org/files/agency-without-name/agencies.xml

This URL/path would be copy/pasted into the Agencies File: the path of the Settings Utility as shown below:

Simply save this configuration and then right-click on the Symphony Receipt Printer icon in the system tray and reload the configuration.

Please let us know if you encounter any issues with getting your Agencies file updated/reloaded.

Have a great day,

John

UPDATE: RE: UPGRADE NOTICE – Enterprise Search and Discovery Catalog

Greetings SEO Members,

The Enterprise indexing is now complete and everyone should be able to login and search as normal.

Please Note:
For any libraries using a Search Box on their library website, the “embedded.search” code no longer works with Enterprise 5.0.x and later. Please check your library website and perform a search to see if you are affected.

I have updated our search box code document and it can be found here: https://support.servingeveryohioan.org/index.php?pid=knowledgebase&cmd=viewentclient&id=285

Please let us know if you encounter any problems.

Kind Regards,

Subject: UPGRADE NOTICE – Enterprise Search and Discovery Catalog
Importance: High

Hi everyone:

Quick reminder, SEO will be working with SirsiDynix to begin a two-step upgrade of your Enterprise Search and Discovery catalog starting tomorrow.

Step 1 – Enterprise 4.5.1 Upgrade – August 15th :

  • We are scheduled for an Enterprise 4.5.1 upgrade starting early Wednesday morning – 15 August with an estimated start time of 1:30 AM. We estimate this upgrade will take between 2 to 4 hours to complete ( ENTERPRISE WILL BE UNAVAILABLE AT THIS TIME).
  • Post Upgrade, approximately 1 hour, consulting work by the upgrade engineer to fix the standard CSS themes and profiles impacted by the upgrade (ENTERPRISE WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING THIS TIME).

Step 2 – Enterprise 5.0 Upgrade/Server migration – August 17th :

  • We are scheduled for an Enterprise 5.0.0.5 upgrade early Friday morning – 17 August with an estimated start time of 3:00 AM. The upgrade/migration process is estimated to be 4 to 6 hours to complete.
  • Post Upgrade, approximately 1 hour, we will work with a consultant to resolve any custom widget modifications that may be needed (ENTERPRISE WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING THIS TIME).

REMEMBER; ENTERPRISE WILL ONLY BE UNAVAILABLE DURING THE ACTUAL UPGRADE PROCESS TIMES BOTH DAYS

Updates will be communicated to the listserve as necessary.

Why are we upgrading:

Merchants and partners use HTTPS to securely connect with PayPal’s servers. PayPal requires the use of Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol to encrypt these communications. To ensure the security of PayPal systems and adhere to industry best practices, PayPal updated its services to require TLS 1.2 for all HTTPS connections. At this time, PayPal will also require HTTP/1.1 for all connections. This went into effect on June 28, 2018. The change impacted member libraries who utilize PayPal for accepting online payments.

Regards,

John

Subject: UPGRADE NOTICE – Dates to remember
Importance: High

Hello, everyone:

We wanted to provide information on some important updates that will be happening soon.

Key dates for upgrades:

  • Symphony 3.5.3 Upgrade – August 13th
    • Upgrade information and instructions provided to the Director’s
  • Enterprise 4.5.1 Upgrade – August 15th Step 1
    • This upgrade was not planned but needed to address Paypal payment issue (see notice below)
  • Enterprise 5.0 Upgrade – August 17th Step 2
    • This upgrade was not planned but needed to address Paypal payment issue (see notice below)

Announcement to member libraries using Paypal 7/3/2018, Sent by Donald Winland:

This is to notify you that PayPal payments made to your library after June 27 will have to be manually removed from the patron’s record in Workflows.

We became aware today of a change made by PayPal that took Sirsi and hence SEO by surprise.

The change implemented on June 28 by PayPal requires a higher version of java to be running on systems using their payment platform than we have in our Enterprise version.

We have requested an upgrade of Enterprise for next week and are waiting for a confirmation date for this to be implemented.

What this means for the libraries:

Log into your PayPal management account.

Any payments PayPal records from June 28 forward will need to be manually removed from your patron’s record in Symphony Workflows.

From the patron standpoint, the transaction does go through without any signs of a problem from PayPal.

However, their balance is not updated in Enterprise or Workflows.

Once the upgrade is performed, payments will work as normal.

I will post that upgrade date once it is confirmed.

Regards,

John
